It’s that time of year again – the holidays are upon us and that means online shopping season is in full swing. While there are plenty of great deals to be had, it’s important to remember that cyber criminals are also out in force, looking to take advantage of unsuspecting shoppers. That’s why the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and Cyber-Scotland have put together some excellent resources on how to stay safe when shopping online.
The NCSC’s “Takedown: removing malicious content to protect your brand” guidance provides tips on how businesses can protect themselves from being exploited by cyber criminals. Meanwhile, Cyber-Scotland has put together a couple of great campaigns specifically targeted at holiday shoppers. The “Shopping securely online this holiday season” campaign offers practical tips on how to stay safe when shopping online, while the “Cyber scammers are preparing to get the most out of you this Christmas” campaign raises awareness of the types of scams that criminals will be using this holiday season.
So whether you’re doing your holiday shopping from the comfort of your own home or braving the crowds at the mall, remember to stay safe and cyber savvy this holiday season!
